BECOMING A DRYSUIT CERTIFIED DIVER…

Dive 1 24 06 2023

After completing my orientation in the pool during the week, I started with a dive in Andark lake on a sunny Saturday to start Dive 1 of my Dry Suit Diver course. The visibility was low, but much better than it had been, and we were diving right to the bottom at 6.5 meters. we set up our equipment before putting our suits on, so we did not overheat, though we could always take a dip in the lake to cool off. We then kitted up for about 10 am and got in…

After doing a successful weight check at the surface we practiced buoyancy and trim in a Dry suit along with our BCDs when we dived to the platform at 3m and did the rest of our skills, it took no more than 30 minutes. The biggest thing I learned is how useful it is to shift air around your dry suit to adjust trim, while also being careful not to become positively buoyant!

Its great to finally get to start learning a really useful skill for diving in colder UK waters, I still need lots of practice with my suit to be cool, calm and not touching the bottom, even with the tips of my fins…
