Our 4 Andark Scholars have embarked on their PADI Rescue Diving course complete with EFR.
The PADI Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response combined course can best be described as rewarding and fun.
It encourages divers to learn to look beyond themselves and consider the safety and well being of other divers.
They will learn about self-rescue, diver stress, diving first aid, emergency management, surface and underwater distressed diver response. They will also learn how to deal with missing divers and how to surface an unconscious diver.
In the Emergency First Response (EFR) they will learn primary care, basic first Aid and CPR and secondary care, injury and illness assessment and bandaging.
The rescue course is a great way to build confidence and resilience in divers.

Over the course of two days, we completed our PADI Rescue Course, and it was such an amazing experience! This course really benefited me as a diver as it gave me wider knowledge as well as confidence in and around the water if there were to be a medical emergency.
My favourite part of this course was learning to recover an ‘unresponsive diver’ and practise our new skills of rescue breaths and resuscitation. This was an amazing task to allow us, as a team, to build confidence and resilience in order to feel ready if a situation like this were ever to arise.
During this course you, as a diver, begin to dive not only for yourself but for others to. This feels trusting and enjoyable as it allows you to become the best diver you can be.
We also worked together to learn tired diver tows and calming a panicked diver! These skills were good fun to act and really allowed us as a course group to trust one another and refine skills that are really beneficial.
Our instructors did an excellent job at bringing these situations to life and making scenarios feel urgent! Overall, this course has not only made me a more confident diver, it has also allowed me to expand my knowledge in such a beneficial way, and knowing these skills are such a crucial part every dive it allows you to have more control over different situations.
Xavier
This is Xavier, one of Andark’s 2024 dive master scholars, I was lucky enough to complete my rescue diver early this summer. Ive been diving for a few years now and rescue diver was always my goal to achieve, this meant that when I went into the corse I had very high standards for it. And since completing it, I can without a doubt say that it didn’t disappoint. We ran through many scenarios allowing us to adapt to all kinds of injury related or dive scenarios where we may need to lend a hand of help. This has drastically improved my confidence when helping with courses as I know I can rely on the rescue trading which I revived from Andark. And thus allowing me to become a better diver, and hopefully dive master in the near future.
Jasmine
Hi this is Jasmine one of the Andark Divemaster scholars. Early this summer we completed a Padi Rescue course.
I worked alongside Tom and Carl assisting as I had already completed the course. This involved acting as someone’s buddy and playing the victim in many scenarios. Therefore allowing me to gain an insight into behind the scenes of a course and begin playing the role of divemaster.
The course lasted 2 days and it was a great way to get to know each other before the scholarship begun.
